The Ford Ranger is one of Australia’s most popular work utes, and it is also one of the vehicles we get asked about most. The answer to “which roof racks suit my Ranger” depends on 2 things: which generation you drive, and whether you want the load on the cab roof or over the tub.
This guide covers both, with the options we build in Adelaide for each.
First: know your Ranger
Fitment is generation-specific. The 2 big groups are:
- Ranger PX (PX, PX2, PX3): the previous-generation Ranger. Our Ford Ranger PX roof racks are made to suit these models.
- Next-generation Ranger (MY22 onwards): including the Wildtrak. These have different mounting points, so they take different racks: the Ford Ranger Wildtrak MY22+ roof racks for the cab roof, and the Ford Ranger Tub Box Rails MY22+ roof racks for tub mounting.
A rack made for the wrong generation will not fit properly, which is why we build ours model-specific rather than selling 1 universal frame.
Option 1: cab roof racks
Racks on the cab roof keep the tub completely free and suit ladders, conduit carriers and lighter long loads. Our Ranger cab racks use streamlined bars that keep wind noise to a minimum, which matters on a vehicle that spends its life on the highway between jobs. The racks are designed and manufactured in Adelaide to suit the Ranger’s roof, not adapted from a generic frame.
Option 2: tub-mounted racks
Mounting over the tub gives you a longer, lower platform that is easier to load and strap down. For MY22+ Rangers with tub box rails, our tub box rail racks mount directly to them. Frequently asked questions
Do MY22+ Ranger racks fit the older PX Ranger?
No. The generations have different mounting points, which is why we make separate racks for the PX and for MY22 onwards. Check your model year before ordering, or ask us and we will confirm it.
Should I choose cab racks or tub racks?
Cab racks keep the tub free and suit lighter, shorter loads. Tub racks give a longer, lower platform that is easier to load. Many Rangers run both, using the pair as 2 support points for long loads.
Are the racks noisy at highway speed?
KRS bars are streamlined to keep wind noise to a minimum, so the cabin stays quiet on the highway. It is one of the things owners notice first compared with generic imported racks.
